This iconic Tasmanian timber is highly sought after due to it's uniqueness. The black line and the darker colour is caused by a fungus that gets into the tree and as a result not all Sassafras trees have the darker timber which is known as "blackheart". This "blackheart" causes Sassafras to be highly sought after and it is not hard to see why.
